This painting has a really warm feeling which I tried to create in the video below with the improvisation on the organ. The dominant yellow color suggests the time of summer in the fields of Lithuania.

In this improvisation, I use a 5/8 meter and a rocking feeling of the Sicilianna - an Italian dance, but I changed the typical meter from 6/8 to 5/8. The French modal techniques help to create lots of warm colors.

In this vivid and colorful painting, you can see the biblical scene of Judas kissing Jesus. Watch the video with organ improvisation on this painting. In this improvisation I wanted to re-create the same dark mood that you can feel in this painting.

In order for this to work, I had to use some modern modal techniques as well as to borrow the melody from the Gregorian chant Kyrie (you can hear it in the solo voice throughout the various parts of the piece).

Crucifixion and improvisation on the organ

In this painting, all important scenes about the Crucifixion of Jesus are depicted - the kiss of Judas, Jesus bearing a cross and so on.

Jesus is hanging on the T-shaped cross above which there is a triangle symbolizing the Eye of God. There are lots of figures in this composition (I counted 24). Can you guess what every person means?

In this video, I wanted to create a similar mood that you can feel in this painting through musical means. It's a rather dramatic improvisation, performed live on the village church organ in Mosedis (Northern Lithuania). You will see the slides with the various parts of this painting over the music in this video which will hopefully help you appreciate it more fully.

On January 8, 2014 at 5 PM there will be an opening of the exhibition by Vidas Pinkevicius "Life - Painting" at the City Hall of Vilnius (Didžioji st. 31, Vilnius). This will be a rare chance for the art lovers of Vilnius to see about 100 paintings of this painter who was active in the coastal city of Klaipeda all his life.

His motto for decades was "No Day Without a Line" which he followed and lived every day. This code could be a great example for every artist and creator of today.

No matter what kind of mood, the situation in life, season of year or a day of the week, Vidas Pinkevicius went to his workshop and did his work. Like everyone of us he had to face and conquer the Resistence (Steven Pressfield's great term) which probably showed up in many guises for him.

He was content in living a simple life and the fame and money didn't matter to him. All he cared about was the privilege to do his work every day.

Even when he was travelling (which he rarely did) he kept his pocket drawing book with him at all times. This way he could make sketches and practice his art while on the move.

Come and see a little part of his creative legacy for yourself, if you can. No matter if you like his painting style or not, one thing is sure - you'll be inspired beyond words to do great things for a long time.
